A Jake is a nickname for a Fireman, The exact origin of the term is unknown, though many theories exist. The highest compliment a Fireman can receive is to be called a “Good Jake”
A Rake is short for the tool the “Boston Rake,” a tool that was designed for lathe and plaster ceilings common in the northeast.
